Frequentists: probability is
But there are distributions without mean; also, what is the probability of a “single event” ?
Subjectivists: probability is “built in” us; measures our beliefs.
Is it scientific? Everybody has different probabilities!
Axiomatic: probability obeys certain axioms; Then we can derive laws (such as the law of large numbers). Initial probabilities are assigned using symmetry (principle of insufficient reason)
